AAPL iPod Nano

AAPL hit a homerun with their recent release of the iPod nano. I've never liked iPods until now. The old ones were too chunky, white (too girly looking), and hard-drive based (too easy to break). The iPod minis looked like cheap toys, and the iPod shuffle is just retarded!!
The iPod nano is black (expensive looking), flash memory based (no moving parts, harder to break), and thin. It's so awesome that I just ordered a black 4gig nano. Be sure to buy through apple.com/education for a $20 discount if you're in college.
The singlemost expensive component in the nano is the flash memory. CANSLIM Investing has a great writeup on investing in Samsung, the company that supplies memory for the 4gb nanos. Arstechnica, a technology website, has found that Toshiba supplies flash memory for the 2gb nanos.
While Apple made a home run with the nano, they absolutely struck out on their joint venture with Motorola (MOT) on the Motorola iTunes ROKR. I was really surprised by that crappy design. How did the makers of the elegant RAZR and the sleek iPod end up designing something so nasty?!?

LOL I think about 10 million iPod users would differ with you. Too bad you never owned one, you might know what you are talking about.

this is what i mean by easy to break.
cant imagine a hard drive surviving that kind of abuse.
my ibm thinkpad laptop’s HD couldn’t even survive day to day use.
Personally I think the nanos suck. They scratch easily, are easily lost, look really no different than the tyical ipod, and are too expensive for their limited capabilities. Think about it ~$200 or $250 for a 2GB/4GB flash drive that only plays music and occasionally solitare. If it could play video files too… maybe. But nope. Might as well spend the money on the following:
1) 300-400GB PC hard drive. Maybe even 500!
2) Add another $50-100 to buy a 2GB+ memory card for a new cell phone that can play MP3s AND videos.
3) Buy a PDA that can play music and do many things computers can.
Maybe I’m an IPOD hater, but hey, I’m just being realistic and pragmatic here. In the future, there’s no need for an exclusive gadget for an MP3 player. Cell phones, cameras, and mp3 players will unite as one and will be nano size. If you have the cash to burn, by all means…! Just my 2 cents.
